Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods

9+ years of experience

Details

  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative research

    • Including but not limited to modeling, remote sensing, desktop work, statistical analysis, fieldwork, surveys, and interviews

    • Published ten (10) peer-reviewed articles and three (3) reports

  • Perform high-quality research, analysis, assessment, and data visualization using tools such as

    • R / RStudio (visualization and statistics)

    • ArcGIS (GIS tool)

    • MaxQDA (tool for survey or interview analysis)

    • LucidChart (visualization and sketching)

  • Examples of more than 15 projects include:

    1. Reflective pavement assessment using heat metrics in the City of Phoenix, leading to an expansion of the material application by the City of Phoenix (report). The City of Phoenix continues the investment in reflective pavements.

    2. Formative project and partnership evaluation of a city-community-university partnership using surveys, interviews, and text content analysis to advance sustainability and equity initiatives on collective heat resilience in Tempe, AZ. The partnership is making adjustments based on this evaluation.

    3. Conducted collection and analysis of the impact of shade at the Phoenix Zoo Parking Lot before and after shade structure installation. The Phoenix Zoo plans to expand its shade policies.

    4. Collected peer-reviewed literature on heat mitigation strategies and US city practitioner policy documents using the ACEEE policy database to analyze written communication about the social, economic, and environmental impacts of cooling interventions. Outcomes show a disconnect between science and policy. Awareness of communication disconnect may allow for stronger fiscal and political recognition of science-policy partnerships and bring in diverse knowledge sources.

    5. Modeled and interpreted climate model data. Assessed 13 CMIP5 global climate model outputs concerning their similarity for climate change in the Arctic Ocean which showed large discrepancies between the magnitude of local warming in the Arctic Ocean based on models.
